Description2007 Gibson Custom Shop "Inspired By" John Lennon Les Paul Junior, John Lennon limited edition guitar, serial number Lennon 33, in cherry finish.The guitar, part of a limited edition of 300, is made to the specifications of Lennon's modified Les Paul Junior with Charlie Christian neck pickup, Tune-O-Matic bridge, stop tailpiece and relic finish and hardware. The guitar was shipped with a limited edition pop art portrait of Lennon in New York City by artist Allison Lefcort (see 2000.182.0001).
Lennon became a frequent Les Paul Junior player in his post-Beatles career. Lennon asked luthier Ron DeMarino to modify his Les Paul Junior to get a better sound, which led to the installation of a Charlie Christian pickup in the neck position. The guitar's original wraparound tailpiece was removed and a toggle switch was added to aid in pickup selection.
