2011 C.F. Martin & Co. JSO Sing Out! 60th Anniversary Pete Seeger Custom Artist Edition baritone guitar
Sing Out! The Folk Song Magazine was founded in 1950 as a way to share the American folk music that was becoming popular in the mid-20th century. In the post-World War II era, folk music began to provide an intersection of political activism with American lived experiences in a brand of music played by artists such as Woody Guthrie, Alan Lomax, and Pete Seeger. Sing Out! explored these stories of traditional music-making in America for over 60 years before publishing its final issue in 2014.
This guitar was produced in a partnership between Martin, Pete Seeger, and Sing Out! to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the publication in 2010. Pete Seeger (1919-2014) was an American musician and social activist whose brand of folk music served as the backdrop to early countercultural movements. Seeger was first known as a banjo player before switching to a 12-string guitar in the 1950s. His custom-made 12-strings were the inspiration for this guitar (also produced as the J12SO! 12-string), with its unique soundhole and two pickguard setup.
