1969 Fender Jaguar
Fender introduced the Jaguar in 1960 as a short-scale (24") guitar with unique electronics similar to their Jazzmaster model. It features an offset body design and and a three-circuit setup for switching between rhythm and lead sounds. The third circuit engages a capacitor that serves as a high-pass filter. The guitar also features a redesigned bridge and vibrato mechanism. Jaguars were adopted by the surf rock community in the 1960s, but their obscure design and higher price point compared to Fender's Telecasters and Stratocasters caused the model to be discontinued in 1975. A reissue was produced beginning in 1999.
Notable Jaguar players include Carl Wilson (The Beach Boys), Elvis Costello, and Nils Kline (Wilco).
