Peter Wolf (b. 1946, Peter Walter Blankfield) is an American musician and vocalist best known as the lead singer of The J. Geils Band (1967-1983). Wolf came up through the Boston music scene of the 1960s, first as a member of The Hallucinations and later as a radio DJ for alt radio station WBCN. In 1967, Wolf joined The J. Geils Band who were rising stars in the Boston area. The J. Geils Band started as a blues rock band, with a later shift toward a new wave sound. The band's third album Bloodshot (1973) reached #10 on the Billboard 200 driven by the popularity of the single "Give it to Me." Wolf and the band toured extensively throughout the 1970s, recording several live albums. Wolf's stage antics and the band's blues sound made them a popular live act.

In 1981, the band released Freeze Frame, their 10th studio album and last album with Wolf on vocals. Freeze Frame reached #1 on the Billboard 200 in February 1982 with hit singles "Centerfold," "Freeze Frame," and "Angel in Blue."

Wolf left The J. Geils Band in 1983 to pursue a solo career. His first album Lights Out (1984) was commercially successful and featured the single of the same name. Wolf has released seven more solo albums.
