Jimmy Page (b. 1944) is an English musician who is best known as the guitarist for pioneering rock band Led Zeppelin. Page transitioned from a studio session musician into a member of the Yardbirds from 1966 to 1968. The Yardbirds broke up in 1968, and Page formed a new band first calling themselves the New Yardbirds before changing their name to Led Zeppelin. With Led Zeppelin, Page became known for his heavy guitar riffs and melodic solos, forming the basis for the musical genres of heavy metal and hard rock. Songs like "Stairway to Heaven," "Kashmir," and "Whole Lotta Love," showcase Page's musical prowess. Led Zeppelin were considered one of the biggest musical acts of the 1970s, with over 111.5 million RIAA-certified record sales and six of their ten albums charting at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Page's guitar playing included the use of multi-neck guitars, cello bows, and heavy distortion. Page has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two times, as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 and with Led Zeppelin in 1995.
