Atoning for his earlier disappointment, Joe Louis was ready for Max Schmeling during the second installment of their war. Joe Louis represented an entire race of people when he battled his German challenger in 1938. In fact, after winning the title from James Braddock Louis wouldn't recognize himself as champion until he dealt with Schmeling. Louis finally got the revenge he sorely need when he dominated Schmeling June 22, 1938 at Yankee Stadium. Fans celebrated in the streets following Louis' triumph.
